Forfar served up a bumper gala day.
With the weather helping to play its part, organisers of the Myre event said it was a fitting finale to gala week and thanked locals for turning out in big numbers to support the occasion.
The gala was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Georgiana Osborne, with the musicians of Forfar and District Pipe Band helping to get the day off to a rousing start.
Around the Myre was a range of stalls and attractions, including Tayside Fire and Rescue and displays by both Tayside Classic Car Club and the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club, who took time out of their own preparations for the upcoming Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle next month.
The entertainment on the main stage was varied throughout the afternoon, with Forfar gym owner George Bertie leading a kickboxing demonstration and some traditional fancy footwork from the young Highland dancers of the town’s Liz Low school.
The crowd was also treated to a special performance by Forfar Academy’s Rock Challenge group, fresh from their recent success as runners-up in the Scottish final of the UK-wide talent competition.
Nepalese dancers returned to the Myre stage after being a gala day hit last year and the programme line-up was completed by award-winning Celtic rock group Gleadraich and Kate Reid, with a firefighting demonstration from local crews.
Councillor Jeanette Gaul of the gala committee said Sunday’s event was one of the busiest to date.
“We’re absolutely delighted with the number of people who have come along today,” she said.
“It takes a lot of hard work to organise the gala week programme and it’s fantastic to see everyone here enjoying themselves.”
