Invertay on tops in Monifieth community centre plans

A site at Invertay House emerged as the best location for the proposed Monifieth community centre at a meeting in the Panmure Hotel.
The site off Union Street was the clear favourite ahead of two other options — the land occupied by the recycling centre and the area of the tennis court and putting green.
The two others, being south of the railway line, were thought to be too isolated.
The land of the staff car park at the former Invertay School, now council offices, was favoured for being more central and accessible.
Community steering group chairwoman Margaret Copland said the feelings of the 70 people who attended will be passed on to the professionals conducting a feasibility study into the community centre.
Angus Council has pledged £300,000 towards the project. This would leave an estimated £1.5m to come from fund-raising and grants.
