Transport Minister Derek Mackay has agreed to meet a Laurencekirk junction campaigner as the community anxiously awaits news of a decision.
Jill Fotheringham said she was “delighted” Mr Mackay will meet her on May 21 in Edinburgh when she will further plead the case for a junction.
A public exhibition was held at the Dickson Hall in January to seek views on proposed options for junction improvements for the A90 and A937.
CH2M HILL, an engineering consultancy, was commissioned by the North East of Scotland Transport Partnership (Nestrans) to develop proposals for improving access to Laurencekirk.
A total of seven packages were unveiled, but one involving average speed cameras was rejected, leaving six all of which include a grade-separation at the south junction.
The deadline for public comment was February 28 but there has still been no word of a decision from the Scottish Government.
Jill said: “I am delighted that he has agreed and it hopefully gives us a chance to plead our case.
“We have all placed a lot of faith that the access study will bring a positive outcome for a flyover at Laurencekirk and it would be devastating if that doesn’t happen.
“We also need to know when we can expect a decision to be made.
“Each day on that road brings the potential risk of another fatality.”
Florist Jill started pressuring politicians for action in 2004 after she became tired of producing wreaths for victims’ families.
