One of Carnoustie’s oldest residents, Isabella Murray, has died at the age of 100.
She had celebrated her centenary with family and friends on December 3 last year, but passed away at Ninewells Hospital on Monday following a brief illness.
The daughter of a farm grieve, Isabella (Bella) was born at Boddin Farm near Lunan along with twin sister Jean, who lived until she was 94. They were two of eight children.
Bella attended Craig School before entering domestic service, eventually becoming head cook at Dunninald Castle.
She married Bob, a railway worker, in 1939 and the couple moved to Monifieth and then Barry, before settling in Carnoustie.
Bob died in 2000.
They had four children, Robbie, James, Isobel (who died in 2007) and Jean, six grand-children and eight great-grandchildren.
The family lived on Shamrock Street for many years, with Bella living there for 60 years before moving to Kinloch Court in 2014, where she enjoyed the community spirit and company of others.
Bella was a keen women’s guild and WRI member and enjoyed baking, jam making and needlework, as well as travelling with her husband.
She was also a staunch supporter of Carnoustie’s musical and drama groups and was a committee member of the local Scout troops.
Her funeral service is today at Erskine UF Church, Carnoustie.
