An art exhibition has been organised in tribute to a former Angus man who died in Thailand this year.

David Wyllie, 36, died in a road accident after moving abroad more than five years ago with his partner and son.

The former Montrose Academy pupil was described by his mother Trish Winton as someone who “lived life to the full.”

Mrs Winton’s cousin, Kim Canale, who runs an art gallery at the old rope works in the town, has put on a show of paintings each weekend this month as a tribute. The gallery on Bents Road is showcasing work by Anna King, one of the biggest names in contemporary landscape painting in Scotland.

Kim said: “Anna is my cousin’s favourite artist and we thought it was apt to have this exhibition in David’s name. We wanted to make sure no one has forgotten about him.

“He has left a son in Thailand and we have been collecting money to help him through school, and we’ve had lots of people at the exhibitions.”

Kim has run Wall Projects from her Wellington Street home gallery for the past nine years and rents the old rope works from local entrepreneurs Lynda and Neil Paton.

“I promote some of the best talent in Scotland and beyond, focusing on emerging artists,” Kim said.

“This is my fifth solo show with Anna, and she is as popular as ever.”
