Children left ‘shaken’ after stranger encounter in Wellbank
ByThe Courier Reporter
Police are investigating a report that two children walking to school were approached by two strangers in a car.
The alarm was raised after the children told teachers at Mattocks Primary in Wellbank of the incident.
A concerned mother said the kids were left “pale and shaken” after being approached.
She said: “The police said it might be a case of mistaken identity.
“The kids were walking to school and a car was driving along the road and it stopped and told them to get in the car.
“They refused and the car sped off.
“Then they went into the school and reported it.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland is keen to trace the driver and passenger of a blue small Vauxhall Astra car who spoke briefly to two children before driving off in Wellbank on Wednesday around 1pm.”
The spokeswoman added that the men were both described as being in their 20s.
Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer.
