Lifeboat House restoration lets visitors enjoy Johnshaven’s rich heritage
ByThe Courier Reporter
The Lifeboat House in Johnshaven opened on Saturday to mark the attraction’s participation in the Museums Galleries Scotland Festival.
Activities included music from the Lathallan pipe band and folk group Stonekist, a wildlife photography exhibition, traditional net-making demonstrations, history talks and kite-making for children.
A wildlife-themed photography competition was also running.
The event also showcased the work of Benholm and Johnshaven Heritage Society, which has developed the Lifeboat House after securing vital funding to bring the disused building back into community use.
The project began after the society was gifted the Lifeboat House in order to store and display a growing collection of photographs and artefacts relating to the Johnshaven and Benholm areas.
Significant grants were awarded and it is hoped the venue will not only provide a place for people to come and enjoy the area’s rich heritage but also an exciting hub for talks, performance, art shows and more.
