Sandra Malcolm murder: South African authorities to decide teenager’s fitness for trial
ByThe Courier Reporter
An 18-year-old woman accused of murdering former Angus grandmother Sandra Malcolm in South Africa will face an inquiry into her fitness to stand trial.
Mrs Malcolm, originally of Monifieth, was found with multiple stab wounds in her Cape Town home in April.
Following a prolonged investigation, the teenager, thought to be from the Citrusdal, north of Cape Town, was arrested and charged.
A preliminary enquiry will be held into the accused’s fitness to stand trial before the court reconvenes on June 2.
The girl has been remanded to Pollsmoor Prison, she has not brought an application to apply for bail and the court has appointed a legal aid lawyer for her, the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa reports.
Mrs Malcolm, 74, lived in the Lakeside area of Cape Town and was found dead on April 19 by her grandson in an apparent robbery gone wrong.
An autopsy revealed multiple stab wounds as the cause of death.
Police confirmed nothing had been taken from the home.
