The Scout Association in Angus will throw open the doors to its Jock Neish Centre on Friday to show off the facility after a double flooding disaster.
Business leaders, schools, colleges, Scout groups and the public have the opportunity on Friday to see the extensively refurbished facility, just off the A90 near Tannadice.
Although the movement’s motto is Be Prepared, the Scouts were not anticipating what Mother Nature threw at them in January 2014 when the South Esk burst its banks flooding parts of the training centre.
Major damage left the association with a race against time to prepare the centre for the camping season at the end of March although an insurance company was involved.
An earth bund was constructed around the immediate buildings and, with internal repairs also complete, things were looking up until the Scouts were dealt another cruel blow when the river burst its banks again.
Scottish Fire and Rescue personnel spent five hours pumping water at the centre and sandbagging the breached bund.
This weekend sees the culmination of months of hard work to bring the centre up to a first-class facility for Scouting activities.
District commissioner Stewart Duff said that although most of the work had been done by Scout volunteers, Deeside Timber, Stonehaven, and Ewan Milne Welding of Brechin had provided vital help in the project.
“Although Scouting takes place most weekends, the centre is often free during week days and would make an ideal place to have team-building activities or that sort of thing,” he said.
The fully equipped centre has accommodation for 50 people.
