Drivers facing the long way round during bridge repairs
ByThe Courier Reporter
Mearns drivers and tourists are facing a three-week detour on a scenic rural route.
The B974 Fettercairn to Strachan road will be closed at Spittal Burn Bridge on the Cairn o’ Mount from next Monday to allow for essential repair works to the bridge.
The listed structure was damaged following a vehicle collision during the winter.
The project is being carried out now as it involves the use of a lime mortar which is temperature dependent.
Aberdeenshire Council said an alternative route will be available via the A93 to Banchory, A957 to Crathes, A90 to Stonehaven, B966 and the B974.
Pedestrian and property access will be maintained.
