TV crews capture the action at Strathmore Highland Games
ByGraeme Strachan
The talents of the finest athletes on the Highland games circuit was showcased in the Angus sunshine.
Strathmore Highland Games took place against the stunning backdrop of Glamis Castle with a bustling calendar of events.
There was a full programme of open athletics while cyclists took part in five races, from 800m to 8,000m.
There were also heavy events such as shot putt, hammer and tossing the caber and the games staged the British Tug o’ War Championship, a pipe band contest, Highland dancing and solo piping.
The Strathmore connection stretches back to 1975 when the event was formerly known as Forfar Highland Games and was held in the county town itself.
Since 2002 the grounds of Glamis Castle have been home to the games.
The day culminated in the massed pipe bands, the salute to the chieftain, Alex Webster, and the prize-giving.
The appetite for the traditional spectacle on Sunday brought two television crews to Angus from the UK and US to capture a flavour of the games.
