Language barrier causing problems between sex offender and social workers
ByThe Courier Reporter
A convicted Angus sex offender has had difficulties engaging with social workers due to translation issues.
Bronislaw Cybulski was placed on the sex offenders register for three years for looking under a ladies’ cubicle in Forfar Tesco last February.
Sheriff Pino di Emidio read a report saying social workers at the Tay Project had language difficulties with Cybulski, despite an interpreter’s presence.
Solicitor Brian Bell expressed “surprise” at the update but added his client is not to blame.
The sheriff called for a more detailed update on September 17 and said he was making “no criticism” of the accused.
“It says in this report this was an extremely complex matter and requires a high level of education but these conditions are imposed all the time.
“It’s been quite clear that Mr Cybulski has been of good faith in this but given the nature of the offence I am reluctant to write it off.”
