A new Angus group aims to help people affected by Alzheimer’s disease through golf.
Around 170 guests attended the launch of the Memories Golf Club Carnoustie at Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
The launch took place at the Provost’s Ball, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Carnoustie.
The night raised more than £13,000 for Alzheimer Scotland Angus Services.
Memories Golf Club Carnoustie hopes to help people with Alzheimer’s through golf, and has already held some sessions at Carnoustie Links.
Michael White of Alzheimer Scotland explained: “The effects of this can be spectacular, and people who have lost touch with golf are soon back in the swing of things.
“I have seen a 95-year-old pick up a club and play some amazing shots.
“Line and length soon comes back and they are not long in getting back into the language and terminology of the game.
“This local effort has been tremendous.”
Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee chairwoman Pat Sawers said they had taken the project to heart.
She said: “It is a very special golf club which will bring together players and admirers of the game to help illuminate past glories of the tees, greens and fairways among those living with dementia.”
Angus Provost Helen Oswald said she was delighted at the amount of money raised at the ball for Alzheimer Scotland Angus Services, which is her charity of the year.
She said: “I know the charity will put the money to really good use for those living with dementia in Angus.”
