An Angus joiner has warned people to look out for bogus workmen who are falsely claiming they work for him.
Lee Ritchie, 43, from Carnoustie, was told by a friend that workmen had been at his elderly mother’s home claiming to work for his company.
It comes just days after police said that bogus workmen may be visiting homes in the area after targeting a woman in Monifieth.
Lee, who runs Lee Ritchie Joiner Ltd, said: “I have built up a reputation as a good and reliable joiner in the Angus area and these guys could ruin my business.
“Fortunately, the lady was suspicious and contacted her son, my friend, who got in touch with me.
“Thank goodness she didn’t hand over any money to them, but what worries me is who else they’re targeting.”
Lee said he believed that bogus workmen going round the area had seen his van with his name and contact details on it, and decided to use that information.
Police Scotland has urged people to be alert against bogus workmen in the area.
A spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland are urging Tayside residents to be aware after an elderly woman was targeted by bogus workers.
“On Monday afternoon, an 85-year-old woman was offered services to repair her home’s roof.
“One of the men was described as between 50 and 60 years old and of stocky build. Two men who were with him are believed to be in their 20s.”
