Vandals have forced the closure of a popular Angus paddling pool after ripping protective covering from the bottom of it.
The council was forced to drain the Sandy Sensation pool on Monday and police are now reviewing CCTV in a bid to catch the culprits following the latest attack in a string of vandalisms at the busy attraction.
The damage will cost around £700 to repair and work is now under way to get the pool back in operation as soon as possible.
With the Angus school holidays in full swing and fine weather drawing the crowds to outdoor play areas such as Sandy Sensation, the council said those responsible were spoiling the summer for locals and visitors.
Police Scotland are making inquiries into the vandalism.
A council spokesman said: “This isn’t the first time the paddling pool has been targeted for this type of mindless vandalism and it is a great shame that it has put the facility out of use for a time during the school holidays.
“The damage caused will be repaired by a specialist company in the coming days so we can make this popular attraction available again for the young people who enjoy it.
“While we are determined to ensure that the actions of a small minority cause as little impact as possible for the wider community, it is an expense the public purse could have done without.”
“We would ask anyone with information about this latest incident, or who wishes to discuss any issues relating to vandalism, to call the council ACCESSLine on 08452 777 778 or contact the police on 101.”
