Montrose branch of the British Legion has acknowledged that mistakes have been made in the running of the social club.
The group had to call an emergency meeting in March after it emerged that the club’s accounts were due to run out of money within days.
Over the past three months, a review has taken place which has also involved input from office bearers from the other two branches of the Legion the main branch and the women’s section.
These strands have been well supported but, as they have charitable status, their income cannot be used towards the social club.
Legion spokesman Ian Robb said: “A large number of the faults lie not just in the past couple of years, but for some considerable time.
“Focus on younger membership was lost, resulting in the perception of an old man’s club which only looked back.
“Activities that stimulated youth to participate have been lost, and now a new focus is necessary.
“It is hoped to shortly start media expansion through Facebook, with all three sections participating.”
Saturday night dances are running and there will be a coffee morning at Old and St Andrew’s Hall on July 25 and a Sunday lunch at the Legion on July 26.
Starting in September, social nights on the third Wednesday of each month are also being planned.
The club is also encouraging people to book out the club’s facilities.
“Progress seems to be beginning to take place,” added Mr Robb. “It is very much a situation of watch this space.”
