A Mearns woman and her partner represented Scotland at the DTL Home Countries International Clay Pigeon Shooting Tournament held in Ireland.
Jenna Lyall from Inverbervie returned home with a trophy for being top Scottish lady shooter, while fellow Scot Ben McKillop recorded 99 hits out of 100 clays on the day.
The couple first met at clay pigeon shooting shotgun shooting at clay targets and now travel widely across the country honing their shooting skills, and amassing essential points before they can be considered for the Scottish shooting team.
Clay pigeon shooting at international level is an expensive hobby, and the couple are grateful to their respective employers and sponsors for supporting them at the Irish event last weekend, and to their proud parents who made the journey to Kilkenny where the team was based.
The history of the sport dates back to 1880 when “clay” birds or disks were invented. Originally, live birds were used as targets, released from under hats or in traps.
