A bomb disposal team was deployed to Angus this morning after an unidentified item washed up on a beach.
A safety officer from the MoD facility at Barry Buddon reported the find at a nearby beach to police at 6.50pm on Friday.
Police monitored the situation overnight before the bomb squad were sent in at 10am.
It turned out to be an old torpedo shell.
A police spokesman said: “The report of an unidentified explosive ordinance on the beach at Barry Buddon was reported to us by the deputy training safety officer at the MoD facility.
“We had an officer on point all night keeping an eye on it. The tide came in and covered it but when the tide went out it was still there.
“A bomb disposal team attended and it turned out it was an old torpedo shell, which has now been disposed of.”
