Hands up if you know someone who may have cast aside a personal artwork.
Sculptors and other artists have been asked to help reunite a piece with its rightful owner, after it was discovered at a popular walking spot in Angus.
The mysterious hand was found on a footpath at Arbroath’s Victoria Park.
The limb will remain in good hands until the artist can be found but it is not known whether the hand is a companion to a Venus de Smokie or another disarmed statue.
Arbroath artist Fran Marquis had a look at the artwork yesterday and could not put her finger on the originator, but said the list of likely suspects must be in single digits.
She said: “Depending on the method used to make the piece, it could be a few people around Arbroath.
“There are also a few people at [Dundee & Angus] college who come to me to fire pieces and they might be able to help.”
The first chairwoman of Angus Open Studios added: “It is very strange that someone would leave it like that and I wonder if it’s been part of a larger piece.”
The woman who found the piece, who did not want to be named, said: “I got a bit of a shock when I saw it at first as it is very detailed, I picked it up and was surprised by how heavy it was. I’m intrigued.”
