Shamed Angus head teacher Gillian Rew has appealed her sacking by Angus Council.
After The Courier revealed last month the Arbroath High School figurehead had been dismissed over claims of inappropriate drunken behaviour on a senior school trip to Lockerbie last year, it has now emerged Mrs Rew is fighting the ruling.
The latest development in the saga surrounding the popular teacher comes a year after she was suspended from her post at the 920-pupil school following the autumn break as a result of claims made in the wake of a weekend adventure trip.
Mrs Rew, who arrived at Arbroath High in 2013 from her previous role of depute rector at Morgan Academy in Dundee, is believed to have been the subject of a complaint over her antics during a trip organised as a positive performance reward for sixth-year pupils.
She subsequently found herself charged by police in connection with the alleged incident.
However, in August the Crown Office confirmed criminal charges against her were not being pursued following “full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case”.
Angus Council held a disciplinary hearing which led to her dismissal.
The Courier now understands Mrs Rew has exercised the right to appeal which was open to her as part of the process.
A council spokesman said the authority could not comment on individual personnel matters.
An appeal hearing will now be set but no details of the next stage of the disciplinary process have been released.
If the dismissal decision is upheld it is likely to be referred to the General Teaching Council for consideration of possible sanctions against Mrs Rew.
