Five men have appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court in connection with an ATM theft in Carnoustie.
Nanu Miah, 27, Robin Vaughan, 43, Anthony Raymond Conroy, 28, Andrew Michael White, 26 and Carl John Kavanagh, 32, all appeared in private on petition on Monday.
All five men are from the Birmingham and Liverpool areas.
The charges against them are that on Friday February 12 they stole a car from an address in Arbroath and used it in organised crime, namely to break into the Co-op store in Barry Street, Carnoustie and steal an ATM machine containing £16,100.
It is further alleged that Miah drove a stolen car bearing false license plates, without insurance and that at the Westway Retail Park in Arbroath he repeatedly reversed into another car while police were standing behind it and caused damage to the car.
The incident sparked a major police operation in Angus on Friday.
A large scale police presence was stationed in the Carnoustie area all day.
Several emergency vehicles were at the Co-op store and a police cordon was set up around the former estate of Olympian Liz McColgan for much of the day.
Arrests were later made outside McDonald’s in Arbroath.
Police maintained a visible presence at court on Monday afternoon as the five made their first appearance.
None of the accused men made any plea of declaration during the short hearing before Sheriff Gregor Murray.
The case against them was continued for further examination and all five men were remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
