Major efforts are under way in Angus this morning to stem the rising waters of the River South Esk at Brechin.
The partially built flood defences held out after a night of steady rain across Angus, and water is being pumped from River Street back into the raging torrent of water with heavy machinery also being used in the operation.
The overnight rain on top of already saturated land led to repeat flooding in Storm Frank hotspots including Justinhaugh, north of Forfar on the River South Esk and the area around Logie, on the North Esk, near Montrose.

However, sandbag defences around properties including the former Justinhaugh Hotel were holding out, with local residents braced against the prospect of water levels rising yet further during the day.
The A90 dual carriageway was badly affected by surface water in places, including the A94 turn-off to Glamis which was closed for a spell and across both carriageways at the Bogindollo junction a few miles north of Forfar.

Drivers were also encouraged to avoid the western entrance to Brechin from the A90 where deep floodwater covered the road near the entrance to Brechin Castle Centre.
Police repeated their warning to motorists not to ignore road closed signs or take risks on flooded roads.
