An Arbroath pensioner has admitted possessing more than 100 indecent images of children.
James Mesney, 66, of Culloden Crescent, admitted having the images at his home between June 14 2013 and November 25 2014.
Depute fiscal Joanne Smith said that 122 category A videos and images were found across three computing devices.
She said: “Following information received that the accused had indecent images within his home, a search warrant was obtained and a search carried out in November 2014.
“He said he was looking at adult sites and had come across the images. He said they would all be found on his computer.”
A computer, hard drive and USB stick were sent to Dundee for expert analysis.
The fiscal said Mesney told police he was the sole user.
“He said he had been looking at adult sites and that it brought up a site with young people. This took him to child porn sites,” added the fiscal.
“He admitted downloading videos and said he had looked at them three or four times before deleting them.
“The videos involved children as young as six years old and both male and female children.
“He explained his actions as a bad error of judgment.”
Analysis by police found that peer-to-peer software and cleaning software had also been used on his PC.
Not all of the 122 images and videos were accessible on the computing equipment because they had been deleted.
Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence until November 18 for a criminal justice social work report.
He also placed Mesney on the sex offenders register for the interim period.
