A Tayside family have told of their shock after a fitness enthusiast collapsed and died suddenly.
Arthur Hay, 63, was gardening for a friend in Broughty Ferry on Tuesday when he became ill.
Wife Pat and the rest of his family, from Carnoustie, are awaiting test results to find out what caused a seemingly fit and healthy man to collapse.
Daughter Jacqui paid tribute to the former farmer’s son and lorry driver who also worked for DC Thomson saying he loved nothing more than being surrounded by “his girls”.
Jacqui said: “Dad was a keen runner he completed two Dundee marathons and numerous half marathons.
“He was a keen cycler and Munro-bagger. He has completed 208 of the 283 Munros, and 89 tops. He was also a keen golfer in Carnoustie.
“This is why it is such a shock he was the fittest man. His greatest thing in life was his family.
“He absolutely loved being surrounded by ‘his girls’ his wife, daughters and granddaughters. He had a passion for life. Every day you met him, you couldn’t believe how happy he always was.”
Mr Hay was born and bred in Tealing, where he went to school until he was 15 when he went to work on his father’s farm.
He then spent many years working for Dundee Plant as a lorry driver before moving to DC Thomson’s transport department, where he stayed for 26 years before taking early retirement in 2009.
He then took on a part-time job with Selwood Funeral Directors in Carnoustie.
He met Pat in Arbroath in 1969, while living in Tealing, and they moved to Carnoustie in 1981.
They had two daughters Jacqui and Debbie sons-in-law Cammy and Ross, and grand-daughters Erinn, Dana, Brooke and Robyn.
He was also an avid supporter of Dundee FC.
Jacqui added: “He was just a lovely man. He was absolutely full of life and loved every minute of it.
“He would do anything for anybody.”
