An “idiotic” Forfar man bared his bottom in public during an afternoon drinking session, the town’s court has heard.
Arran Kirkwood, 21, of Lordburn Place, admitted that on July 25 last year at Kirkton Park in Forfar he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing and pulling down his trousers, exposing his bare buttocks.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court that a woman had been playing with her young daughter in her garden at Kirkton Park when she became aware of a neighbour entering his garden with three other people, including Kirkwood.
“The accused appeared to be under the influence and the woman decided to go inside with her daughter as it was becoming rowdy.
“When she was in her kitchen she observed the accused pull down his trousers and expose his bare buttocks. A few moments later he pulled up his trousers and continued to speak to his friends.
“A short time later the accused left and the police were contacted.”
Defence agent Brian Bell said the offence occurred when Kirkwood had been drinking and he had little recollection of the afternoon’s events. He said: “I think he recognises that this behaviour is idiotic.
“He recognises that it’s about time that he started to grow up. He has a number of previous convictions for crimes of disorder. Most of his previous convictions also occurred while he was under the influence.
“He has little recollection other than being with friends and drinking. He realises this was in a built up area where families were living and that people shouldn’t be required to put up with this sort of behaviour.”
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio told Kirkwood: “As your solicitor acknowledges, it’s time for you to grow up.”
He sentenced Kirkwood to 60 hours of unpaid work.
