There was an unexpected event during one of the highlights of Arbroath’s civil and church calendar.
The Kirkin’ o’ Angus Council had a small hitch when a fire alarm at Arbroath Library meant the assembled dignitaries were evacuated outside.
The tradition involves councillors and local community figures making their way to the church as a procession and joining the regular congregation.
The group walked up through the town centre to attend the 11am service. Fortunately, the fire brigade call-out was only a false alarm. St Andrew’s Church in Arbroath hosted the ceremony.
Angus Provost Helen Oswald said she was looking forward to the event, and added: “The church is normally very happy to do it, we just go along and swell the congregation.”
Last year’s ceremony at Carnoustie Church was led by the local pipe band and Arbroath RBLS did the honours this year.
