An Angus man has avoided jail after racking up his third drink-driving conviction.
Dennis Buchan drank the “best part of a bottle of vodka” before getting behind the wheel of his silver Peugeot on January 2.
The 30-year-old, of Noran Avenue, Arbroath appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court and was disqualified for four years, after failing to provide two specimens of breath at Arbroath Police Station.
He was pulled over in town and gave a roadside test measuring 168 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath more than seven times the legal limit of 22 mics.
Solicitor Robin Beattie said of Buchan: “He lost his employment on New Years’ Eve, as a lorry driver for Angus council. He turned to alcohol.”
Sheriff Pino di Emidio also ordered Buchan to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, but refused forfeiture of the car.
