One of the busiest nightclubs in Angus is facing possible sanctions after being called before licensing chiefs.
The licence for De Vito’s in Arbroath may be under threat at a review today in the latest stage of an ongoing council scrutiny of how the establishment is run.
A spate of alleged criminal incidents of disorder and violence in or around the club led to management being brought before Angus Licensing Board last year.
The latest stage will involve board consideration of whether to proceed with a premises licence review.
The board last year considered a report following an application from the chief constable after fears were expressed over the safety of clubbers.
The club’s lawyer, Janet Hood, described the police complaint as “invalid” due to its lack of detail at the board meeting on February 12 2014.
It referred to 53 occasions officers attended the nightclub in 2013 but did not specify the dates or nature of the incidents.
The licensing board decided to defer its hearing about De Vito’s to enable information about the 53 alleged incidents to be provided by police and also for the resolution of a court case.
Councillors would have the power to revoke De Vito’s operating licence if they saw fit.
