European funds help to pay for Arbroath harbour improvements

A £170,000 boost for small boat users at Arbroath harbour has been hailed a big plus for the “thriving” facility.
The European Fisheries Fund is to provide half of the cash for a new hoist and landing slab which will allow small craft to undergo minor repairs in a corner of the outer harbour.
With a new hoist replacing one of the existing slipway cradles, the flexibility of the slip will be greater than ever before and reduce repair expenditure which has soaked up funds in recent years.
Angus Council will provide the other half of the six-figure sum and Arbroath councillor Bob Spink led the welcome for the investment as it was approved by infrastructure services committee councillors this week.
“The marina works well and the boatyard, which this grant will also help, is also very busy. I look forward to being able to further promote the whole harbour area outwards towards Arbroath Abbey and the rest of the town,” he said.
