A main Angus road closed for hours today after a giant beech tree fell across the carriageway.
A male driver of a Volkswagen was checked for injuries after the tree came down on the A933 Forfar Road, Arbroath.
The incident, north of the junction with the Rosely Country House hotel near East Muirlands Road, happened around 5.30am and police closed the road while Angus Council workers sawed and chipped the beech on site.
The road remained closed at 10.30am, with police on the scene expecting it to reopen by noon. Were you the driver? Contact the Courier on 01382 575893 or email angus@thecourier.co.ukIt is understood the Volkswagen driver had driven into the tree as it was falling, but had escaped injuries.
One residential property was affected, and Ray Kydd said he had already had a long day of clearing away branches and chopping wood.
A Police Scotland Tayside Division spokesman said: “A tree came down on a car and damaged it but the driver was unhurt.”
