An Angus pupil has been charged over alleged cannabis possession at Monifieth High School during school hours last week.
A pupil has been suspended while an investigation takes place.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a Monifieth High School pupil has been charged in connection with an incident at a school on Wednesday December 2.
“A report has been submitted to the youth justice assessor for consideration.”
A spokesman for Angus Council confirmed the local authority is aware of the alleged incident.
He added: “A pupil has been suspended from an Angus secondary school following an incident on Wednesday December 2.
“The matter has been reported to the police for further inquiry.
“It is not appropriate to comment further at this time.”
Angus Council’s depute convener of children’s and learning services, Councillor Lynne Devine, said she was confident that the school had taken appropriate action as quickly as possible.
She added: “I know the head teacher at the school will be treating this matter extremely seriously.
“Parents can be reassured that the school involved will deal with this effectively and quickly.
“This is now a police matter and will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.”
Police Scotland said that any pupil who had concerns about anything at the school should contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
