A call has gone out to Letham residents who may be affected by a Post Office consultation over its local counter service.
The Spar in Gardyne Street processes post office transactions and is the subject of ongoing talks, ending just before Christmas.
The region’s MP has implored villagers to speak up for the services they require from their shop by December 23.
Mike Weir wants residents to consider any changes being proposed to the services at the branch, which may see counter opening hours increase.
He said: “The services provided by the Post Office through the Spar shop in Letham remain important to many people in the village and the surrounding area and it is important that people consider the changes that are being proposed.
“Clearly in other areas of Angus there have been strong objections to some of the proposals for changes to Post Office services.
“The changes in Letham seem less severe but nonetheless it is vital that people do consider them and make representations to the Post Office if they have concerns.”
A spokesman for the Post Office said: “We’re talking to the postmaster about making some changes to the post office and we’d like you to tell us what you think about the changes before we finalise our plans.
“There’s an exciting programme of investment and transformation taking place across the Post Office network, helping to make branches more modern and convenient for you and for the postmasters that run them.”
Services would be provided from a screened point at the shop counter and the branch would be open Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 6.30pm.
According to the Post Office, customers will still be able to get “most” of the Post Office products and services they are used to, but a small number of services would be catered to at other post offices, online, or by telephone.
Changes are proposed for February or March next year, and would see the shop close for up to a week, and services redirected to Forfar.
The post office in the Mearns town of Inverbervie is also the subject of discussions, ending a day earlier on December 22.
