Row over changes to laundry services for incontinent people in Angus
ByGraeme Strachan
Changes to special laundry services for incontenent people in Angus will put “huge pressure of families”, it has been claimed.
The eligibility criteria for the free community laundry service was changed this month in a bid to “reduce demand” as part of ongoing budget cuts.
The changes mean that anyone with access to laundry facilities will no longer be deemed eligible – a situation that has left some families “extremely upset”.
Montrose councillor David May said: “Having someone in the house with a particular medical condition which means that bedding needs to be changed will put huge pressure on families and their quality of life.”
It’s understood the council is trying to help those affected find “satisfactory solutions” and a spokesman said anyone with questions or concerns should get in touch.
There is a duty on the local authority under the Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act 2002 to provide/arrange an incontinence laundry service which is ordinarily not charged for.
