Police in Angus are looking for two people to help with inquiries after a firebomb was thrown at a residential property.
Residents in one of the quietest areas of Montrose were panicked by a late-night disturbance as police officers rushed to Melville Gardens, after reports of a flaming object thrown into a garden.
And the nearby school’s CCTV is understood to be among cameras being checked along adjacent Russell Street near the town’s hall, museum and Montrose Academy.
Officers are examining footage and are keen to speak with a male and female who were heard in a nearby alleyway, which runs to the rear of the Town Hall and leads out on to Railway Place.
A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, saw police attend after 9.30pm on Tuesday and said: “This is very out of character for this area.
“We do sometimes get groups of kids hanging around that late at night, but that’s usually because the school is open for different things and we don’t expect trouble.”
Police could not confirm the type of object but a Police Scotland Tayside Division spokeswoman said: “Officers are currently investigating an incident that occurred on Tuesday 10th December 2013, at Melville Gardens, Montrose, near to its junction with Russell Street, whereby an item was ignited and thrown into a garden there.”
