The man planning to bring a major dance music festival to Angus this summer says he is not expecting any licensing “challenges” from Angus Council.
Festival of House is scheduled to be held at the Panmure Estate near Carnoustie in June, with top names from the dance music world signed up for the two-day event.
A community consultation event was held at Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Wednesday for residents in the area to talk directly with the organisers.
Among worries which have been raised is the lack of control that festival staff will have outwith the festival venue, on other parts of the Panmure Estate.
Neighbours have expressed concerns about people turning up to the estate without a ticket and have pointed out the potential dangers of Montague Bridge, which is more than 100 feet tall and spans a deep gully.
The festival’s project team is working with an external security company on a strategy for areas outwith the festival.
Proposed measures include 24-hour protection of residents’ properties and round-the-clock mobile patrolling and stewarding of external roads, including Montague Bridge.
Festival director Craig Blyth said: “We’ve got quite a lot of control on what happens outside the festival site.
“We’ve got experienced event managers and experienced crew who are used to dealing with festivals on a far larger scale.
“Bringing these people on board with their experience is vital to allay any local residents’ concerns.
“I’ve had the opportunity to speak to Carnoustie Community Council and local residents as they come through the doors today.
“The community council have been great and in the wider community we’ve been inundated with well wishes and people saying how brilliant it is for a festival of this stature to come to Angus.”
In terms of being granted a licence from Angus Council for the event, Mr Blyth said: “There’s been nothing so far that’s come up that’s made us think we’ve had any challenges.
“It is normal in the event industry that licences are granted very close (to the event starting), sometimes even on the day of the event.
“It is a normal procedure.”
Dance chart toppers Underworld, Leftfield and Rudimental have been booked to appear at the festival, which would run on June 10 and 11.
Mr Blyth said he was now looking at adding some local talent to the bill.
“From day one we’ve been trying to attract some of the biggest names in the industry.
“We’re absolutely delighted with how the line-up is shaping up so far.”
