A new app has been developed to tackle alcohol misuse and encourage Angus people to enjoy sensible drinking.
At the Focus on Alcohol Angus launch in Forfar, representatives from the Angus Licensing Forum, Police Scotland, Angus Council, NHS Tayside and Angus Pubwatch Scheme were given a tour of the new app and revamped Focus on Alcohol Angus website.
The app gives information on alcohol consumption including facts about alcohol for adults and young people, alcohol units and calories, staying safe while drinking and advice for parents on how to talk to their children about alcohol and its effects.
The app and website also includes a question and answer section where a trained alcohol advisor will answer questions and provide advice within 48 hours.
It was launched by Angus police commander Chief Inspector Gordon Milne, chairman of Focus on Alcohol Angus, who said: “We see this website and app as a tool to promote culture change amongst the population of Angus.
“By using social media, we hope to engage with the people of Angus and encourage positive and sensible attitudes to alcohol consumption.
“I would ask people to look out for the Focus on Alcohol posters with the QR code to download the app and make use of this informative tool.”
Councillor Glennis Middleton, of Angus social work and health, said: “The council and its partners recognise the toll that alcohol misuse can take on individuals, families and communities.
“The Focus on Alcohol Angus campaign seeks to promote culture change amongst Angus people by encouraging positive and sensible attitudes to alcohol,” she added.
“To do this we must reach out into our communities in a number of ways, including utilising social media and the latest technologies and I am delighted that we are taking this innovative new approach.”
The app is available for mobile phones and tablets at Google Play and the Apple App Store.
