Angus’s stunning golf courses have once again provided a tourism boost to the county.
Young, professional golfers from across the world have amassed in Montrose to take part in the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters at the town’s golf links.
The competition is part of the Europro Tour for young professionals and reaches a climax on Thursday.
Hotels, B&B’s and other accommodation providers near the course have taken an influx in trade thanks to the competition, boosting the coffers of some of Angus’s businesses.
Montrose councillor and golf fan David May welcomed the increase in trade and also the news that the competition will be shown on Sky Sports in the coming weeks.
“I have been told that all the hotels and boarding houses are fully booked, so it is clear that this golf event has been a great boost to the local economy for accommodation providers and also for our golf clubs and restaurants,” said Mr May.
“As the event is being televised by Sky, this will also provide a wonderful showcase for our golf course, which celebrated its 450th year in 2012. The media exposure will also help to attract even more visitors to our course and to Montrose and Angus.”
Montrose Golf Links chairman Alan Crow said it was great for the course to host such up-and-coming talent.
“Events like this always raise the profile of the club and course and it’s great publicity for the area and the places around the course. It’s a great way to promote golf in Angus and people from all over the world will see it.”
