Repair problems force Angus Folk Museum to stay closed until next year

A long-running heritage attraction in Angus will remain closed this year, it has emerged.
Conservation charity the National Trust for Scotland shut the Angus Folk Museum in Glamis as a “precautionary measure” in May.
It followed a regular condition check of the building by the trust’s surveyors, which suggested that roof tiles had loosened.
But repairs have proven to be more difficult than first thought, the trust’s property manager said.
John McKenna said: “Despite everyone’s best efforts, the repairs needed to the Angus Folk Museum have proved much more complicated than originally thought.
“We’re very sorry that we haven’t been able open this summer, but clearly we cannot take any chances where safety is involved.
“We are working hard to move things forward so we can have a successful season in 2014.”
Some earlier visitors were disappointed to find the museum has not weathered the elements well.
The museum, which is housed in six 18th Century cottages, contains artefacts and displays depicting more than 200 years of rural life in Angus. It houses a dossier compiled by Margaret Thorburn on the community’s wartime contribution.
