Thousands of pounds worth of clothes were stolen as criminals looted a historic Angus golf shop. Thieves broke into Simpson’s Golf Shop in Carnoustie, next to the famous club’s 18th green, on Friday. During the pre-dawn theft, around £3,000-worth of men’s golfing clothes was taken. Shop staff were alerted to the break-in by police after an alarm was set off at around 4.30am. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “There was a break-in at Simpson’s Golf Shop on Links Parade at around 4.30am and inquiries are ongoing.” The store’s owners were unavailable for comment. Local independent councillor Brian Boyd said the crime was not a common thing to happen in the town. “To find that this has happened to what is a very iconic building in Carnoustie, with a long history behind it, is shocking,” he said. “I hope the police find these criminals and a conviction is forthcoming. “The town doesn’t often see this kind of crime and long may that continue, so it could be someone from out of town. “It could be professionals who have done this.”
