Heather Ingram sealed a win in the youth female category in the 2014 Montrose Triathlon.

The organisers of last year’s Montrose Triathlon have announced a date for the third annual event.

Following feedback from last year, Tri Angus Limited has chosen June 5 with entries open on January 22.

Almost half of last year’s participants were taking part in their first triathlon.

The 2015 event was a sell-out with 210 participants registering within five weeks of entries opening, plus a further 65 put their names on a waiting list.

The event will again be based at Montrose Sports Centre and participants will have the option of taking part in the novice or sprint distances.

Tri Angus director Maggie Lawrie said: “We are delighted to announce the date for the 2016 Montrose Triathlon.

“Last year’s event was hugely successful on so many levels. We really have been blown away again.

“The 2015 event not only gave the people of Angus the opportunity to challenge themselves by doing something a bit different, to which they responded very well, it also brought a lot of people to the area from all over Scotland and a few from England.

“We were delighted and very grateful to the support we received from local businesses, as well as the 50-plus volunteers, without both of which the event could not run.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who would be interested in supporting the event again and they can get in touch with me via info@triangus.co.uk.

“Finally, being a social enterprise, one of our aims is to support the triathlon community in Angus.”
