Concerns over an Angus nightclub have prompted police to call a special meeting of the county’s licensing board.
“Heavy handed” door staff and bar workers who have proven “unhelpful” in the past during officer investigations are singled out in a report over De Vitos Nightclub in Arbroath.
Tayside Chief Inspector for the Divisional Co-ordinating Unit, Caroline Scobbie, has outlined concerns over preventing crime and disorder and public safety.
Should they see fit, the board can forfeit the nightclub’s licence next Wednesday.
Ms Scobbie states: “Throughout 2013 officers have attended at De Vitos Nightclub on 53 occasions to deal with matters such as drunkenness, disturbances and assaults.
“The number and nature of these incidents gave me cause for concern as to the manner in which the premises were being run.”
Ms Scobbie invited the licence holder to support the premises through a Police Scotland Licensing Intervention Plan.
However a “serious incident” later involved Royal Marines from RM Condor and staff member on October 27 last year.
She states: “The conduct of the premise staff was unacceptable and fell well below the standard expected.
“I now request that the licensing board review the licence,” said Ms Scobbie.
The nightclub door staff were “reluctant” to assist the police officers with their inquiries, refused to identify or confirm the names of their colleagues, and showed a “very poor” attitude towards the police officers in attendance.
