Angus dog owners urged to comply with new microchipping legislation
ByThe Courier Reporter
Angus community wardens are to take the microchipping message to dog owners ahead of new legislation coming into force within weeks.
From April 6, dogs across the UK need to be implanted with a microchip in a drive to make it easier to reunite animals with their owners if they are lost or stolen.
Surveys have shown that the move has overwhelming public support.
Councillor Jeanette Gaul, chairwoman of Angus Council’s Pride in Place group, said: “We want every dog in our area to be fitted with a microchip. It is in the best interests of the dog, the responsible owner and the public as a whole.
“Our dog warden already scans any stray dog and has been successful in reuniting dogs with their owners.
“The community wardens will be out and about in the weeks ahead seeking to encourage anyone who has a dog to make sure it is not only chipped, but that chip holds the correct information.”
