The Tutties Neuk Inn’s licence is to come under review after claims of overcrowding before a recent Rangers match.
The Arbroath bar will find itself in the dock in Forfar on Wednesday after allegations of overcrowding, people drinking outside and blocking any means of escape in the event of a fire.
The complaint was made by Scottish Fire and Rescue area manager David Stapely following Arbroath FC’s televised Monday night clash against Rangers in November.
Mr Stapely reported that 200 people were in the pub which is just across the road from Arbroath’s Gayfield ground against a licensed capacity of 98 people. He said this failed to comply with the licensing objective of securing public safety.
He said he had visited Tutties Neuk the Thursday before the match to remind the licence holder of the premises’ capacity and to check if any door staff were to be on duty.
Sheona Hunter, who is clerk to the licensing board, said: “The board may therefore wish to ask appropriate questions of the premises licence holder, Alan Graham Shand, about which personal licence holders were on duty when the incident which has led to the application for a premises licence review was alleged to have occurred.”
