Campaigner looks to clear up confusion on Balmashanner Hill walking route
ByRichard Watt
An access campaigner is looking for evidence that a walking route near a First World War memorial is a public right of way.
The path up to Balmashanner Hill in Forfar, next to the town’s imposing monument, has been closed off for some months.
Nan Hargraves, a resident for the last 16 years, is trying to determine whether the path at the top of Northampton Road, behind Balmashanner Place, can be officially designated a right of way.
She has since taken up the issue with Angus Council and ScotWays, the Scottish Rights of Way and Access Society.
She is now appealing to people who have used the path regularly to submit evidence via a ScotWays questionnaire before it is submitted to the council.
For the path to be a right of way it must be freely used for 20 years or more.
Copies can be obtained from Richardson’s Newsagent in High Street and from Mrs Hargraves by emailing nanansteve11@hotmail.com.
The deadline for submissions is January 31.
