An Angus man has appeared in court facing five driving charges following an alleged weekend hit and run.
Paul Mowatt, 33, Goosecroft, Forfar, made no plea or declaration in relation to the charges when he appeared in private at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Monday and was released on bail.
He is accused of driving dangerously and colliding with pedestrian Kenneth Robertson, 89, last Friday. Mowatt is also accused of failing to stop and give his details following the alleged collision.
He is also charged with failing to report at a police office to declare the alleged offence and of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
He faces an additional charge of driving dangerously along several roads around Forfar, including the B9113, the Kinnell to Forfar road near the A932, the Forfar to Lochlands road and the A90 near Forfar.
It is alleged he drove on to the opposing side of the road, moved between lanes and varied his speed, causing other drivers to swerve.
Sheriff Peter Paterson continued the case for further examination and Mowatt will appear at a later date. Mr Robertson remains in a serious condition in Ninewells Hospital.
