Brechin Amateur Operatic Society has struck up a call for past players to get in on the act for the group’s celebration of its golden year.
This year sees the society mark 50 years since its revival in the Angus town and, in a break with the tradition of staging one spring performance, the aim is to put on a half-century showcase of talent.
The first step towards the September event will take place tomorrow night and past members are being encouraged to step into the spotlight once again.
Society president Steve Middleton said: “It is of great credit to all the members over the years that our society is still thriving as it reaches this milestone.
“I believe that every one of the annual productions is a show of which we can all be proud, and the audience feedback and continual support is testament to this.”
Mr Middleton said September 4-6 had been earmarked for the anniversary production, which aims to showcase the last 50 years.
“As the first 25 years of the society was marked by Silver Sounds in 1989, the intention this year is to perform numbers from many of our shows but focus on those produced from 1990 to 2014.
“We hope that former members of the society will want to be involved and it is my pleasure as president to be able to invite them to be part of the show.”
Tuesday’s initial meeting will be held in the City Hall at 7.30pm.
“The format and content of the show can only be finalised once we know the cast and to what extent each member wishes to be involved,” Mr Middleton said.
“We’d love as many former members to be involved as possible and although we have sent out letters to many, it’s been difficult to track everybody down.
“We appreciate that not everyone will want to participate in a full show and some people will be unable to commit to weekly rehearsals for four months over the summer.
“But to make this a special event we are happy for people to be involved in as many or as few of the numbers as they wish.
“And if there are others who don’t wish to perform on stage but who would still like to be involved in the show we will gladly find a way for them to assist off stage,” he added.
