The latest in a long line of music festivals in Kirriemuir will strike its first chords in the town this Saturday.
Paint the Wee Toon Red, organised by DD8 Music, will bring together an eclectic mix of artists from across Scotland for a day-long music bash in pubs, followed by an evening concert in Kirrie Town Hall.
The Angus town has developed a growing reputation for hosting top-notch music events, with festivals like Bon Fest and Live in the Den already attracting strong followings and positive reviews.
The gigs bring tourism and a boost in footfall to the town but also provide a platform for young musicians to test out their skills in a live environment alongside professional touring acts.
Paint the Wee Toon Red is no different and the music will kick off at 1pm with bands and musicians playing at venues around the town.
DD8 Music chairman Graham Galloway said the event should have music to cater for most tastes and all ages.
“With bands covering all styles and genres there is sure to be something to tickle your fancy,” Graham said.
“Playing during the day will be bands and artists such as Sonnet 65, Around 7, the Dead and Buried, Eddie McNaughton, Neil Patterson and Mark Thompson, Bravado and the Smoking Bugler Band.
“In the evening there is a night of Americana and country in the Town Hall, kicking off with the youngsters from the DD8 Music youth group playing a set of classic country covers.
“They’re followed by Fife’s Shameless who have got the party started every time they’ve played Kirrie, most recently at last year’s Relay for Life.
“Following them we have the country-tinged garage rock of the Reverse Cowgirls.
“Fronted by stalwart of the Glasgow music scene, Hugh McLauglan, the Cowgirls have been ripping up the stage wherever they play for several year now.”
Headlining will be Jericho Hill, Scotland’s premier tribute to Johnny Cash.
Graham added: “The band have built up a fierce reputation over recent years, playing at festivals up and down the country, including Wickerman, Rebellion and Belladrum.
“They also followed in the footsteps of Johnny’s legendary prison recording at Folsom and San Quentin by playing a gig to inmates at Barlinnie jail in Glasgow.”
He continued: “The band cover Cash’s whole career, from his classic early hits, right the way through to the final albums he produced with Rick Rubin. This is a night any true music fan won’t want to miss.”
Tickets for the evening are priced at £12 and are available from the Kirriemuir Art Gallery on Reform Street, Sharp Music in Forfar and Groucho’s in Dundee. Doors open at 7.30pm in the Town Hall.
