Police investigating a serious sexual assault in Arbroath are appealing to people in the area who have private CCTV to help with their enquiries.
A 21-year-old woman was attacked near the Morrisons supermarket in the town centre on Sunday.
Detective Chief Inspector Bobby Dow said: “I urge anyone who may have CCTV on their property to please assist us with our enquiries into this sexual crime, by securing any recordings and by contacting our officers to allow us to review the footage.
“There may be important evidence caught on your outside closed circuit cameras that will help us to identify the individual responsible for this unprovoked sexual attack that happened at the underpass in Robert Street.
“We are particularly interested in any CCTV that may capture the areas around Gravesend, Morrisons supermarket and car park, Hume Street and Robert Street after 2am on Sunday morning. If you have any CCTV facilities at all around your home, please let us know. Give us the opportunity to decide whether there may be something of value to help us with our investigations.
“Our extensive enquiries are ongoing, with a focus on obtaining witnesses who were in the area at the time. Officers are carrying out house to house enquiries with local residents and business premises, obtaining and reviewing local CCTV.
“I would like to thank the public for their response to our appeals in the media and we have a number of lines of enquiry as a result of the information provided to us so far. However, we are still very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything that can assist us.”
DCI Dow added: “He (the attacker) is described as being aged in his 20s or 30s, of stocky build, between five feet ten inches and five feet eleven inches tall and was clean shaven. He is further described as wearing a white T-shirt, dark jeans, dark jacket and light trainers.”
Anyone with information can phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
