A man who passed Angus traffic police at 111mph will keep his licence after he was found not guilty of driving dangerously.
Police detected 33-year-old Nicholas Rennie overtaking two cars at excessive speeds on the southbound carriageway of the A90 near Moatmill junction, on March 15 last year.
At Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday insulation fitterRennie, of Washington, Tyne and Wear, also faced a charge of driving dangerously.
But Rennie picked up five penalty points and a £450 fine for the speeding offence only, after Sheriff Kevin Veal heard evidence from two police witnesses.
Police officers Michael Cargill and David Halkerston had picked up Rennie’s BMW 320 driving at excessive speed over a 333-metre stretch.
The court heard Rennie had been a service delivery manager for an Aberdeen firm, and commuted twice a week.
Sheriff Kevin Veal said: “In terms of dangerous driving, it is quite clear that within the area there were no other sources of obvious hazard, apart from the farm tracks the police were sitting in.”
