A Still Game star is getting ready to swap the TV screen for the theatre in Arbroath this Christmas.
Mark Cox, who plays Tam Mullen in the hit BBC series, will appear in a pantomime he wrote at the Webster Memorial Theatre.
Babes in the Woods runs from December 12 to 29, with 35 performances.
It follows the story of babes who are abandoned by their mother and are sent into the woods to meet a variety of characters including wicked witch, sweet old uncle, horrible hairdressers, talking trees, greedy squirrels and a brave hero.
Cox plays a very different role from his miserly Still Game character, appearing as a local hairdresser and plastic surgeon who helps the babes on their journey.
The cast includes other well-known faces from TV including Callum Cuthbertson, who plays the dad of Gary Tank Commander and Kirstin McLean from Limmy’s Show.
Cox said he was excited about bringing the panto to Arbroath when he met his cast members at the theatre.
He said: “This panto was performed at the Cottiers Theatre in Glasgow last year and got a great reaction, but I was very keen to perform it outside of Glasgow in a purpose built theatre. I performed at the Memorial Theatre before it was done up and I’m very impressed with how it looks now. It’s a lovely theatre.”
Cox said he hoped the show would appeal to all ages from adult fans of Still Game to young children.
He added: “It’s a traditional panto, with lots of laughs, but it’s got a modern twist and is not stuffy at all. There’s no smut, I want everyone to enjoy themselves.”
Angus Council arts officer Patricia McGowan said auditions for children to take part in the show would take place on September 29 at the theatre from 11am.
She said: “I’m hoping we can build on the quality of the productions we’ve done on the past and will put the Webster Theatre firmly on the map in Scottish theatre.
“Tickets are already selling very well, with people taking advantage of our early-bird ticket offer, which is available until September 29.”
